Castlerigg Hall Caravan & Camping Park

Disability Access Statement

We have excellent views of the lake and surrounding Lakeland fells and countryside from the site and many of the caravan pitches.  All pitches have parking alongside the caravans. Pitches are level and are on hardstanding all fully serviced with water drain and electric hook-up.  It should, however, be noted that the site has terraced pitches, the lower of these having a 350yrd steep uphill climb to the amenities and so may not be suitable for people in wheelchairs or for whom walking is difficult. The camp field is level and sloping with a possible 450yard walk to the amenities depending on tent location. No advanced reservations are taken for camping.

Reception is open from 8.30am until 9.00pm.  In the unlikely event that a guest needs assistance outside of these hours an emergency service is available- details can be provided on request- however, please be aware that this does not equate to 24 hour service.  The park has coverage on Orange mobile telephone network and there is a payphone outside the Campers Store.

While the park does not have an induction loop at reception, most reception staff have been trained to assist people who are hard of hearing or deaf.  We also have written information for hard of hearing guests.

The park has the ‘Campers Store’ which provides a wide range of provisions including fresh bread, milk, daily papers, toiletries, camping spares, gifts, souvenirs, wines and beers and a selection of ‘Made in Cumbria’ local produce and there is an allocated disability parking bay next to the main amenity building across from the reception building, shop and tearoom.

All facilities are on ground level and most buildings have ramped access with the exception of the tea room and lower toilet building which have two shallow steps, we can, however, provide a portable ramp upon request.  The shower and toilets at the top of the park have level access throughout and we also have a disabled toilet/shower room, please ask for a key at the beginning of your stay, as well as a bath room.

Our park has both caravan holiday homes and touring pitches.  Two of the eight holiday caravans, numbers 7 & 4, have ramped access and all pitches are on level ground.  We welcome assistance dogs in holiday caravans 1, 2, 4, 7 & 8 and we have a dog walk area at the bottom of the tent field.

There is an hourly bus service from the end of the lane, ¼ mile away, into Keswick town centre from where you can get a connecting bus to the nearest train station at Penrith.  This service runs from 9.00am to 7.00pm.  Most buses are accessible but you should check with the bus company on 0871 200 22 33 to confirm that the service suits your needs.  The local taxi firm, Davies Taxis, (telephone 017687 72676) has a specially adapted people carrier for those who need assistance.

We take the safety of our visitors very seriously and therefore there is a 10mph speed limit throughout the park with clearly marked signs and speed bumps.

Most members of staff are trained in accessibility awareness and we aim to provide a comprehensive service.  If you need any help or assistance during your visit please do not hesitate to contact any member of staff as they will be happy to assist.  Our staff would be delighted to discuss any personal requirements with you.
